según la UICN esta especie se encuentra en preocupación menor, se estima que hay una población de 50,000-499,999 individuos. La población se sospecha que es estable en ausencia de evidencia de cualquier disminución o amenazas sustanciales.

Acorde el laboratorio de ornitología de la Universidad Cornell, el Trogón (Trogon mexicanus), es endémico de tierras altas de los bosques de Centro América. con un amplio rango de distribución.
