American Vetch

Vicia americana

Description:

Pea or bean family. It has purple flowers in clusters of 2 to 9. The leaflike structures at the base of the compound leaves are sharply toothed. This is the only native vetch in Minnesota.

Habitat:

Spotted near the Chippewa Picnic site on Hwy 26. Found in a grassy and brushy habitat with exposure to sun.
