Description:

Fly in the Bombyliidae family. It measures approximately 1 cm long, being the female slightly larger than the male. It has a long proboscis and large compound eyes. The thorax is brown with dark longitudinal lines. The abdomen is black with thin yellowish transverse bands. The legs are filiform. Adults feed on nectar, while the larvae are parasites or parasitoids of other insects. Presents a clear batesian mimicry, so resembles certain hymenoptera to elude potential predators.

It appears through much of Mediterranean Europe, in scrub and grassland zones. Parque Nacional de Sierra de Guadarrama
