Description:

If you look closely at the center of the flower you can see a few thrips. The seed pods are also purple like the flower (see photos 3 & 4). Once the seeds are ready, the pods open and let out the fluffy white seeds.

Habitat:

On the top of a steep hill overlooking a marshy area near the ocean

Notes:

People make fireweed jelly and honey out of these flowers
