Chironomid spp.
A mystery fly about 18mm overall. Long thin legs - 4 for standing on and the rear ones for holding over its head. Some banding on abdomen; 2 pale stripes on thorax; eyes not large for flies. Most obviously semi-opaque pearly white wings with several dark pairs of spots.
On a well lit external school wall at night.
Midges - approximately 10000 species. The weird leg posture is typical. Little is available in the public domain to identify particular species. The nearest image is from Portugal on the EOL reference.. Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Diptera Suborder: Nematocera Infraorder: Culicomorpha Superfamily: Chironomoidea Family: Chironomidae A related spotting of the larval form http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/958... Thanks Jakubco I will go and change mine
This is a non-biting Midge, Chironomidae:

It is a female due to the lack of plumose (feathery) antennae.
This is the pose of a mosquito. I have one yet to be placed in PN that may be similar but with clear wings. I will let you know
been looking all night and have not found it yet, some sleep and I will try again
Yours certainly looks to be the same. It's also got that weird posture with the legs up over it's head. I'm still going for a fly with the short antennae and the striped thorax.
I wasn't totally convinced this was a fly when I added one to the list http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/186...
