Asio otus
The Long-eared Owl - Asio otus is a species of owl which breeds in Europe, Asia, and North America. This species is a part of the larger grouping of owls known as typical owls, family Strigidae, which contains most species of owl.
I remember getting the phone call from work that the Long-eared Owl had been spotted by a friend of mine at the woods. I finished my work and took a half day of vacation because I knew it would be a one day wonder. Sure enough, that evening was the last time the owl was seen. So cool...!!!
He was probably just annoyed by the camera while he was trying to sleep :-) We avoided flashes during documentation to hopefully refrain from being too much of an issue. . . and after shooting with a flash at wild monkeys, Never again . . . I felt horrible from their reaction!
Hehe, he looks so cranky!
He is so angry!
Thanks Alice. It was an honor to get to share in the moment with my friends at the Audubon Society.
