Fuzzy chitons

Acanthopleura granulata

Description:

Three lobed arthropods approximately 5 to 8 inches long imbedded in rock on the Cape Florida Lighthouse bank rock.

Habitat:

Thousands located in clear view below the Cape Florida Lighthouse. Attached to the retention rocks or "rip rap."

Notes:

I reported these while viewing the ocean areas near the lighthouse. I thought this was remarkable and something others may be interested in seeing while visiting a great natural and man made park.

You're quite welcome, Michael. You should also Edit the information in the Description and Habitat fields, also. They are far from fossilized, but their adhesive power is strong enough to make one believe they are embedded in their rock perches. I'm a little jealous, too, because I haven't been lucky enough to encounter living chitons.

Thank you @auntnanc123. I wanted to know more about these. There are so many.
