Cassin's finch

Description:

This cassin's finch was spotted sitting on the back of a buffalo in the rocky mountains at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Yellowstone is high in a mountain area of the west of the United States (our campground is over 7,000+ feet elevation). This spotting was near a pine forested area and mud volcanos. This bird is only found in the western part of the United States.

Habitat:

Found throughout much of the Rocky Mountains, west into the Cascades in Washington and Oregon, and the Sierra Nevada and southern mountain ranges in California. This spotting was in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
