Rio Grande Cottonwood

Populus fremontii (possibly Populus deltoides wislizeni

Description:

A large poplar tree with broad green leaves and deeply furrowed bark. The naturally growing species often have a tall main trunk angled to one side.

Habitat:

This tree grows in clay soils (once flood Plains) along the Rio Grande where the water table is high.

Notes:

It is spring and these leaves are very small and young. I am unable to distinguish between Populus fremontii and Populus deltoides wislizeni beyond a doubt so if you know please tell me which it is.
