Patagonian Crested Duck

Lophonetta specularioides specularioides

Description:

A sub-species of the South American crested duck that is found in Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands. It is a dabbling duck that feeds on invertebrates and algae. Medium sized marine duck, and not sexually dimorphic.

Habitat:

Found along the coast, and breeds in grassy or shrubby land behind tidal line.

Notes:

Relatively common throughout the Falklands, I took this picture while walking into Stanley from the harbour.
