Ficaria verna
Low to the ground (maybe 2") with waxy looking leaves. Seems to function like ground cover. When the plant flowers in April/early spring, it produces yellow buds.
Seen in Clove Lakes Park. Blankets the lake's edge, just shy of the littoral zone.
Fascinating (?and unfortunate). This crop of celandine has pretty much encircled the lake.
That is a huge crop! In places where they're becoming a problem some naturalists are searching upstream to find the source garden.
