Climbing Asparagus Fern

Asparagus scandens

Description:

A wiry climber with soft pendulous branches with long thin leaves arranged closely on either side. The climber had small white flowers and orange coloured berries.

Habitat:

A native of Africa - Spotted growing as a weed in tall eucalyptus rain forest.

Notes:

This species has no spines. A similar looking plant is the A. densiflorus which has its short cladode-like leaves arranged more or less around the stem, with red berries. This is not a fern but belongs to the Family Asparagaceae or Liliaceae.
