Swallow-Tailed Hummingbird

Eupetomena macroura

Description:

"Eupetomena macroura" its one of the most common species found throughout Brazil.

Habitat:

Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina. Tall forests, barns and gardens.

Notes:

Have mate for the first time at the age of 1-2 years, they fly together in zig-zag when they do it. Its nest is shaped like a cup, and the eggs crack after 15-16 days. The young born naked, with a bit of fluff. Its feathers born after 5 days, and its are fed one to two times per hour by their mother. They leave the nest after about 23 days, but return to the nest to sleep for a few more days. Two to three weeks later, they are completely independent.
