Red Fox (vixen)

vulpes vulpes

Description:

This VIxen is one of a pair of foxes that regularly come into the garden to steal food put out for the birds or sometimes for the hedgehogs, the vixen is alot more timid than the dog fox and I saw her peering out of the border to check whether the coast was clear I grabbed my camera and managed to take a few shots out of the window which isnt ideal but I didnt want to risk scaring her off by making any noise or too much movement. Red foxes are social animals, Subordinates within a group are typically the young of the mated pair, which remain with their parents to assist in caring for new kits. The species primarily feeds on small rodents, though it may also target leporids, game birds, reptiles, invertebrates and young ungulates.Fruit and vegetable matter is also eaten on occasion.

Habitat:

The red fox is the largest of the true foxes and the most geographically spread member of the Carnivora, being distributed across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, Central America and Asia. Its range has increased alongside human expansion.

Sounds great! ou are very lucky to ahve such close sightings on your back door! I am in a suburban area but luckily we have alot of surrounding woodlands and countryside so sometimes the animals creep in to the garden.

I live on a flood control lake, so about 100 feet out my back gate. I often see coyote and occasionally the bobcat using the trail from inside the house. Finally was in the right spot with my camera. :)

Was it near your house that you saw that coyote? Its a great spot! There are a few that come nearly everyday but I can only get photos in the summer when it doesnt go dark until very late so they both come out during daylight hours. The vixen is still very timid if you make the slightest movement but the Dog fox is alot more relaxed.

Your fox was very relaxed - so was my Coyote. It must be a lazy spring. PN http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/177...

So cute! In the last picture, she looks like she's yawning and saying "Are you done YET?"
