Audouin's gull

Larus audouinii

Description:

Locally know as "Gavina Corsa", has a red bill with a black end, silver wings with black primary tips with a withe spot at the end and dark legs. Tota large about 50cm and 125-138cm wingspan.

Habitat:

Spotted during a boat trip at "Delta del Ebre" natural park in Catalonia, is restricted to the Mediterranean and the western coast of Saharan Africa it is know that between Ebre Delta and the Balearic Islands it has almost the half of the total population.

Notes:

The English name are after the French naturalist Jean Victoire Audouin. In the late 1960s, this was one of the world's rarest gulls, with a population of only 1,000 pairs. It has established new colonies, but remains rare with a population of about 10,000 pairs.
