Eastern Mistletoe

Phoradendron leucarpum

Description:

Mistletoe is the common name for obligate hemi-parasitic plants in several families in the order Santalales. Phoradendron is a genus of mistletoes, native to warm temperate and tropical regions of the Americas. These plants grow attached to and penetrating within the branches of a tree or shrub by a structure called the haustorium, through which they absorb nutrients from the host plant.

Notes:

This specimen was found on a Bradford pear tree near Kennesaw Mountain.
