Flame skimmer

Description:

This flame skimmer dragonfly is native to western North America. Also called firecracker skimmer. The males are a beautiful bright orange in color with amber color in the wings covering half the width of the wing. They are fun to watch on a sunny day with several skimmers flying around catching insects in the air and then landing to enjoy their meal.

Habitat:

Native to western North America. Spotted in a meadow at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
