"If it does not have 6 legs it is not an insect"

That was incredible!! Thanks for the link, suzmonk.

Thank you so much. I really wanted to see it, when you said " the creature that buzzed the Internet years ago! Crazy claims and a photo that went viral" glad you came back with the link... : )

Hi, Gilma. Yes, this is the creature that buzzed the Internet years ago! Crazy claims and a photo that went viral. Thought you might like to see. Here's a link from a de-bunking website: http://www.snopes.com/photos/bugs/camels...

Hola Gilma Jeannette - si no tiene seis patas no es un insecto ;-)

Smith Zoo....What!! what is it with this arachnid....they like people's clothes?

I took it off, tmvdh.
Until now I did not know exactly what it was, I thought it was an insect!! : )

Hola Gilma Jeannette - como no es un insecto: ¿Puedes eliminarlo de mi misión "Insects of Costa Rica", por favor? Gracias y ¡Pura vida!

Thank you so much for the ID and information, BugEric.
I just left it alone, I found it in my upstair bathroom, I need a creature like that that is a good eater...to eat all the other bugs...I just do not want them on my pants!!

Thank you, suzmonk, it was like an inch and a half!! Needles to say I am checking my clothes before I put them on!!?? : o

They do bite, but they are not venomous. Their jaws are like two pairs of pliers and they simply overpower and kill anything smaller than they are. I liken them to shrews because it seems they are frantically trying to consume their own body weight every night (the majority of species are nocturnal).

Fabulous!! Eric is a crack, yes, it is a Solifuga. I think there are only 2 families in Costa Rica: Ammotrechidae and Eremobatidae, but unfortunately there is not much info about these extraordinary Arachnoidea. I just found some interesting links:

I am not sure if yours is one of the Ammotrecha sp., like the "common" Ammotrecha stollii?
http://www.coleoptera-neotropical.org/6_...
Or Ammotrechesta??, the other of the 2 genera of Ammotrechidae found in Costa Rica:

http://www.solpugid.com/ammotrechesta.ht...
I think for this one you would need the native specimen for examination of the anatomic details and a real expert. Sorry, I cannot help you more than that.

Gilma. Yikes. In your pants? (Yikes!) Is this is the same arachnid, I wonder, that was featured in photo hoaxes several years ago on social media? False perspective made them look enormous ...

That is good to know BugEric....but do they bite? It looked mean to me!!

Solifuge, aka "camel spider," "wind scorpion," "sun spider," etc. Not dangerous, just intimidating and startling! It is an arachnid related to scorpions and spiders.
