Sooty Grouse Chick

A Sooty Grouse chick sitting at the side of the road!

Notes:

While driving home from Bamfield, BC on the weekend we spotted a Sooty Grouse family (a mother and her four chicks!) on the side of the logging road. Having seen several grouse road fatalities in the past, we decided to see if we could scare them away from the roadside and into the shelter of the forest. Alas, the mother and her four little ones showed no fear of us and only ran into the tree cover once we were about a metre away from them! Here's to hoping that they stay safe and away from the road. The mother has successfully raised four chicks this far so she must be doing something right! facebook.com/alenasphotography
