giant shield bug

Lyramorpha sp.

Description:

A decomposing "giant shield bug" of the family Tessaratomidae, probably Lyramorpha sp. Small flies and perhaps other insects are beginning to congregate on the dead insect which has started to lose color and definition. I believe it matches the species in the link I've added under references.

Habitat:

Found in this position (1st photo) in a leaf of variegated croton (Codiaeum variegatum) in a large semi-urban yard & garden, next to a disturbed patch of remnant tropical forest.
