Mount Tucuche tree frog

Flectonatus Fitzgeraldi

Description:

The family Hemiphractidae contains direct-developing frogs which bear the developing eggs on the back until they hatch. Frogs of the genera Flectonotus, Gastrotheca, Cryptobatrachus and Stefania are known as "marsupial" frogs since they carry the developing embryos in a dorsal pouch. Only the genus Hemiphractus lacks this dorsal pouch. (http://amphibiaweb.org/lists/Hemiphracti...)

Habitat:

This one was found on a night walk in the grounds of the Asa Wright nature centre in the rainforests of Trinidad. The Mount Tucuche tree frog (Flectonotus fitzgeraldi) is a species of frog in the Hemiphractidae family. It is found in Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. This species is named after Leslie Desmond Foster Vesey-Fitzgerald who worked on Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1930s
