Burrowing Owl

Athene cunicularia

Description:

I found this little Burrowing Owl living under the road leaving San Jose International Airport. I was amazed at how bold this animal was-- it showed no fear as I approached it for a photo (I used an 85 mm macro lens to get the close-up) and it seemed oblivious to the cars roaring by its home and the incessant airplane traffic coming and going. Nature is resilient!

Habitat:

Hole under the road.

I know. I was amazed to find this owl living so close to the car traffic without any fear.
