Erythronium albidum Nutt.
Speckled leaves resemble a trout. The bulb deep under ground is said to resemble a dog's tooth. This one has white flowers tinged with pink. Sprouts and blooms seemingly overnight (I searched for it a few days ago) in early spring. I have some daffodils and vinca blooming at the same time.
Shady garden in Duncanville, southwest Dallas County, Texas. Although trout lily is very rare in this area, last year the Dallas News ran a story about someone in Garland, northeast Dallas County, who had many in his woods.
Very small, the only one I can find in my shady yard in Duncanville, Texas. I noticed it a couple of years ago, almost overwhelmed by the vinca, spearmint, and pink oxalis. Described thoroughly at Lady Bird Johnson Center http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.... Update: I found one other a couple of feet away. Now they are both marked for protection!
