Leathery Goblet

Cymatoderma elegans var. lamellatum

Description:

This is my 100th fungi spotting, and it's a species of fungi I've never seen before - a leather fungi known as a Leathery Goblet (although it looked more like a martini glass to me). It has a funnel-shaped cap, and a rigid and woody stem. This a large thelophore species which grows (usually) on rotting wood, and is native to Australia.

Habitat:

Found in subtropical rainforest on the Cascades Track in Main Range National Park, SEQ. Very cool, damp. well-shaded area. Specimens found near a rotting tree trunk, although it had been dislodged from the trunk.
