Coccinella septempunctata
A lady bug with only six spots (possibly seven). This ladybug, if threatened, secretes a toxic alkaloid from its legs to create a foul taste for predators. Sometimes, spot size can also indicate toxicity.
Seen on lavafield plants.
The destructive 1986 eruption of Kilauea that buried the town of Kalapana in lava produced the lava bed on which the plants pictured grow.
