Red-winged giant Grasshopper

Description:

A very large grasshopper, females could be up to 14.5 cm in length, from the head to the tip of the wings and almost 25 cm through the wings extended and has a weight of almost 30 g. locally people call the Locust, as they can easily eat plantations of almost any kind. The larvae and juveniles are yellow with almost black and vertical stripes.

Habitat:

Edges of the forest and plantations from Central to South America

Notes:

Common insect in Costa Rica lowlands. Some pictures were taken on 07/13/19
