Gilled Bolete

Phylloporus sp.

Description:

~6cm tall. These mushrooms caught my eye because the strange way the stalk was peeling up. The first two photos were taken a day or two after the others. You can see the cap changed colors and the smaller mushroom grew up. Yellow gills. The top of the cap was leathery and soft looking when it was younger. Lots of rain recently has encouraged the growth of many fungi.

Habitat:

Shady area of a suburban yard
