Gallinula chloropus
There are 3 large water bodies near my house, identified by numbers. This is Jheel (waterbody) 2. It is now TOTALLY covered by the water hyacinth and all the cormorants are gone. However, now I am seeing an unusual number of White-breasted waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) and even the Bronze-winged jacana (Metopidius indicus). The tailorbird and assorted species of mynahs are also dancing around on the leaves catching insects. This Moorhen was preening...and I just about managed to zoom and get a few shots. Could not get better ones because of the sleeping mongrel dogs that take a dim view of morning walkers stopping and staring. They remain curled up but raise their heads and bark menacingly. It takes just a minute to be attacked by the pack.
