Serenoa repens

Description:

A fan palm which is the sole species classified in the genus Serenoa. It grows to a height of around 5 feet and grows in clumps. It has a sprawling trunk.

Habitat:

Endemic to the southeastern United States and abundant along the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal plains.

Notes:

This plant has become very popular as an alternative medicine as treatments for several conditions....benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged or swollen prostrate), baldness and others.
