Baobab Tree

Adansonia_digitata

Description:

Huge tree with trunk as large as 25 feet and more have been recorded. The trunk stores a lot of water. The fruits are relished by monkeys and other animals.

Habitat:

Sub Saharan Africa, Madagascar. Introduced old trees are found in India

Notes:

Discovered this old Baobab tree in the financial district of Hyderabad. The tree is facing danger as a lot of construction material is being dumped around it. Trying to run a campaign to save it. These picture have been taken over a period of 6 months to show the changes in the tree in different seasons.A large African tree from semi arid areas. It is an introduced species in India and only a few ancient trees survive. One such tree I found in Nanakramguda Village in Hyderabad city. This part of town is getting converted in IT park and the tree is in danger of getting cut down.

This is a lovely spotting and you are doing a great job by saving it. Please move your pic with the humans in in as the last pic for this spotting. It gives an idea of the size but our main focus is the species itself. Thanks in advance!
