Great Angelica

Angelica atropurpurea

Description:

1-9 feet tall. Flowers greenish white, in compound umbels; leaves divided into many toothed leaflets. sheaths at leaf bases; stems purple. Shown are the seed heads.

Habitat:

thickets, bottom lands, swamps and meadows. blooms June-Oct.

Notes:

Leaves were considered to be a cure all for contagious diseases and the stems are traditionally candied to decorate Christmas cakes in France
