Anhinga (Snake Bird)

Anhinga anhinga

Description:

The Anhinga swims underwater to fish. Sometimes they will swim along the surface with their head poking up, giving the snake-like appearance (and their nickname: snake bird). They sun their wings to dry off because, unlike other aquatic birds, they don't have oils to repel water.

Notes:

The 4th photo shows the alligator that photobombed us. I was so intent on photographing the anhinga, I didn't notice the gator until today when I was posting.

I haven't heard of this bird before and cool about the alligator too.

Welcome to Project Noah, SeaWorldMommy. This is a nice series. I like the picture of the anhinga swimming mostly under water, and the alligator photo bomb is a riot!
