Water Monitor (on land)

Varanus salvator

Description:

World's second heaviest lizards, the water monitor has a prettily patterned skin.

Habitat:

There is this small path connecting an old residential building (once used to store tax in the 1800s) leading to the main road. I was walking along it when a local kid pulled at my hand and hissed...Go-saap (Water monitor in Bangla) ...and so it was...it crossed in front of me ...entered a dry ditch and thence to two bodies of algae covered ditches full to the brim with water. I saw it the next day swimming in the pond attached to the house...photos being posted separately.

Thank you, torchclubhsac.
It was wonderful indeed. These are not as common as they used to be.
