Hemiaspis signata
We found this juvenile marsh snake in a large puddle next to the road leading into Poverty Point camping area in the Great Sandy National Park (the puddle was leftover from recent heavy rain). In the fourth shot you can see its bright red belly. These snakes are mildly venomous, bear live young, and eat skinks and frogs.

Thanks Argy!
What a beautiful little snake. ..yes hmmm... red belly...
And like me, Leanne!!! It was thrashing around like a demon, and I saw the red belly and I was like, "Er, Nath, are you SURE that's a marsh snake...?" : )
Cool! I'll bet these get mistaken for Red Belly Black by amateurs like me :/
Ok, I will :)
Tell him 'thank you'! : )
My son likes the third pic best.
Thanks Luis! These photos were actually VERY difficult to get. This snake was not at all happy about being picked up and was struggling a lot (it did calm down once it realised we weren't going to hurt it but getting a clear shot was still almost impossible).
Great series Shanna!
