Freshwater Drum (pharyngeal teeth)

Aplodinotus grunniens

Description:

I am not sure what was the cause of this formation, it was found on the creek bank. It looked too perfect to simply be deposited by flood waters. The individual "grains" were held together in a single mass, was able to move the mass without it breaking up. Average size was 5mm, they were hard and nothing similar was found in the area. Will remove if there is no evidence to support it being deposited by or made by living organism.

Habitat:

Riparian

Thank you so much Ava, that has to be it, now that I know I am not disturbing something living will go back and wash off the sand. Will leave it unknown until I can confirm a genus or species, since I do not know yet if that species is present in my area.
