British Soldier Lichen

Cladonia cristatella

Description:

a fruticose lichen belonging to the family Cladoniaceae. The species was first described scientifically by the American Botanist Edward Tuckerman in 1858. Stands about 1/4" high (6.5mm). Several of the pictures include the surrounding frost crystals which gives you an idea how small this is.

Habitat:

Old logs (these were specifically on cedar rail fence).
