Amazon whiptail

Ameiva ameiva

Description:

These beautiful lizards like to hang out around Explorama Lodge. When the sun hits their bright blue tails and vibrant green bodies they explode with color! They are good sized lizards - these two were about 12 inches long from tip of tail to mouth.

Habitat:

Amazon ameivas prefer open areas such as fields, weedy river banks, and the low vegetation around the explorama lodges. They are fast and alert but easy to observe from the walkways around the lodges.

Thanks Jason - The colors captured are dull compared to the real thing! Next time a better camera will be in hand!
