Big Brown Bat

Eptesicus fuscus

Notes:

I know it's a big brown bat because I saw some of its buddies out and about, but couldn't get a better photo. They were tucked up in a concrete spacer under a road bridge over a creek.

It's funny how I found them actually. I am an aquatic biologist so we usually park at a bridge because it's easier to access the water. When we were done I really had to use the restroom and so I stayed under the bridge and let my boss head back to the truck. I was just about ready to head back to the truck when suddenly I heard a bunch of loud squeaky screeches RIGHT above my head (it was inches from the bottom of the bridge). I looked up to see THIS staring at me! So I decided to run grab my camera from the truck and get a picture. :)

It is an awesome photo of bats where they live. Worth the effort!
