Description:

Orange butterfly with black margin and white spots along the edges of the fore and hind wings and two larger white spots near the leading edge of the fore wings.

Habitat:

Found near woodland edge. This one found along the path around Alligator Lake, Lake City, FL.

Notes:

Spotted while birding Alligator Lake with Four Rivers Audubon. Kaufman: Field Guide to Butterflies of North America states Viceroy mimics Monarch in the North and Queen in the South.
