Dolphin

Description:

This mother and calf swimming in a tidal river in Everglade City, Florida near the Gulf of Mexico.

Habitat:

Tidal river

Notes:

According to my airboat tour guide this calf was born late and tail fin first and my guide actually helped to birth the baby dolphin because the mother was struggling for hours and he thought she would die if he didn't help. The rest of the dolphins returned to the ocean, but he thought they stayed behind in the river because the calf was not strong enough to travel to the ocean yet.
