Hello Lisa and Welcome to the Project Noah community! We hope you like the website as much as we do. There are many aspects to the site and community. The best way to get started is to read the FAQs at http://www.projectnoah.org/faq where you can find all the tips, advice and "rules" of Project Noah.

You, like the rest of the community, will be able to suggest IDs for species that you know (but that have not been identified), and make useful or encouraging comments on other users' spottings (and they on yours). Incidentally, it is not necessary to suggest IDs for your own spottings. If you are unsure but think you know what it is you could convey that in the description.

Just to let you know, the scientific name to be used in a suggestion is composed of two name, a genus name and a species name. Family names can be suggested in comments, if a species name is not known. Here's a handy link you can look at to get more information about species names
http://blog.projectnoah.org/post/2870249...... For any spotting for which you may not know the scientific name, just leave it blank but be sure to "tick" the little box that says "Please help me ID this species."

There are also "missions" you can join and add your spottings to. See http://www.projectnoah.org/missions Note that most missions are "local". Be sure not to add a spotting to a mission that was outside of mission boundaries :-) Each mission has a map you may consult showing its range. For technical help with the site e-mail support@projectnoah.org or fill out the contact form at http://www.projectnoah.org/contact So enjoy yourself, share, communicate, learn. Hope to see you around often. :-)
