Fall Webworm Caterpillar

Hyphantria cunea

Description:

While taking a walk I noticed an entire hoard of fall webworms. It is not believed to harm any trees with the web making it does and I was quite fascinated with such a large clutch of the caterpillars being so low to the ground. I've seen their moths around my house too but have never made the connection.

Habitat:

The moth is native to North America, ranging from Canada to Mexico, and is one of the few insect pests introduced from North America into other continents.
