Description:

A bold pattern of eyespots and white bars on the upper wing surface. This is a Summer Version - the summer version of the butterfly has light yellowish ventral wings.

Habitat:

open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground

Notes:

Found in southern Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, &Nova Scotia; all parts of the USA except the northwest. It's especially common in the south, the California coast, and Central America and Colombia
