Aix sponsa
The Wood Duck or Carolina Duck (Aix sponsa) is a species of duck found in North America. It is one of the most colourful North American waterfowl ........To understand the extent of the illicit wildlife trade across Southeast Asia, a good place to start is one of the hundreds of teeming markets that serve as key transit points for illegal animals throughout the region and beyond
The population of the Wood Duck was in serious decline in the late 19th century as a result of severe habitat loss and market hunting both for meat and plumage for the ladies' hat market in Europe

Thanks Ashok! This is interesting and important information, which you may want to add under Habitat. Do you the Animal Rescue mission? You'll find it under Global missions.
Wonderful pics, I think the second picture might be a different species, Mandarin Duck / Aix galericulata perhaps !
Daniele thank u ..I photographed these birds in a bird rescue centre that plays a role in rescuing birds imported illegally into India by the pet trade mafia....so either these rescued birds are given up to zoos for adoption or they remain in the rescue sanctuary ......
Beautiful Ashok! Were they captive, or in a park?
