Common Evening-Primrose

Oenothera biennis

Description:

Lemon-scented, 4-petaled, yellow flowers that are hermaphroditic. The flowers are produced on a many-flowered, tall, terminal spike and only bloom at night, closing by noon the next day. Hence the common name "evening primrose."

Habitat:

On the edge of a meadow next to a rural farm.

Notes:

Evening primrose oil, which has culinary and medicinal applications, is made from this plant.
