Not sure that this could be Salsify. The petal pattern is a bit similar, but the sepals or bracts do not look correct for the common species in the Tragopogon genus.
Doren B, salsify come in red!? We only have yellow here in OK.
Looks a bit like Salsify. Do you have photographs from other angles?
