Barn Owl

Tyto alba

Description:

Barn owls are such cool birds! They're medium-sized, have pale faces, round heads (no ear tufts), and buff and gray backs. Ours seem to have a lot of rust in the mix. Barn owls are nocturnal but sometimes I see them in the early morning or early evening sitting in the windows of these deer blinds. (They often nest in them.)

Habitat:

Barn owls like to forage over open areas. Matagorda Island is perfect for that, with lots of prairie and marshes. The deer blinds make perfect nest boxes lol.

Notes:

These pics are from Matagorda Island, which is managed by the Aransas NWR.
