Bark-gnawing Beetle

Temnoscheila chlorodia

Description:

This beautiful green/blue beetle with large, powerful mandibles landed on a chair next to me and was patient enough for me to frantically run into the house, grab my camera and get three shots off before flying away. This beetle has an "impressed frontal line and coarse punctation of head".

Habitat:

Backyard in Oak Woodland.

Notes:

Can inflict a painful bite if mishandled.
