Green Rope

Acrosiphonia coalita

Description:

The green thallus of the seaweed creates rope like strands. The frayed rope appearance is caused by hook-shaped branches that entangle neighboring branches to form the rope-like strands.

Habitat:

Spotted at low tide at Tongue Point Marine Sanctuary. In some ares on the rocky beach it had completely covered large areas creating an amazing carpet that extended for several feet.

Notes:

Ranges from Gulf of Alaska to central California.
