non-descript web

Description:

Low-lying webbing, ~ 18 inches in diameter, draped like a sheet over some dead vegetation.

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest suburban area.

Notes:

Spotted across a sidewalk from the street, between two houses at the base of the tree, enwebbing some dead flowers/weeds. This web seemed to appear overnight. It is reminiscent of a tent caterpillar web, but no caterpillars were visible within the web as I would have expected, nor does it appear as if a lot of food for caterpillars is within the web, so I have no idea whose house this is.
